Fire Risk Assessment
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, requires that a Fire Risk Assessment is carried out on all commercial premises as well as on the communal areas of residential premises.
Health & Safety
Under the Management of Health & safety regulations 1999, every employer is required to appoint a Competent Person or Persons to assist them to meet their legal health and safety obligations.
Fire Risk Assessments
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that this assessment is undertaken by a "competent person". The term competent person is not defined, but this is because the level of competency and experience required will vary dramatically between premises, dependent on the risks.
You must keep a written record of your fire risk assessment if your business has 5 or more people. But even if your business has less than five employees don't forget that if something does go wrong, it may be difficult to prove that you have done the assessment if it is not in writing.
